Farm kid joke

I guess when you’re from the country your perception is a little different.

A Missouri farmer in his pickup, drove to a neighbor’s, and knocked at the door. A boy, about 9, opened the door.

“Is your Dad home?”

“No sir, he isn’t; he went to town.”

“Well, is your Mother here?”

“No sir, she went to town with Dad.”

“How about your brother, Howard? Is he here?”

“No sir, He went with Mom and Dad.”

The rancher stood there for a few minutes, shifting from one foot to the other,and mumbling to himself.

Is there anything I can do for you? I know where all the tools are, if you want to borrow one, or I can give dad a message.”

“Well,” said the rancher uncomfortably, “I really wanted to talk to your Dad. It’s about your brother Howard getting my daughter, Suzie, pregnant.”

The boy thought for a moment. “You would have to talk to Dad about that. I know he charges $50 for the bull and $5 for the hog, but I don’t know how much he charges for Howard.”

How do I get in on that?

I’m sitting here watching House Hunters on HGTV. This family moved from Virginia to Orlando and their budget for a new house was well over $1 million. While in Virginia, they started 3 businesses, one was a security business, one was a landscaping business and the third a consulting business. I’m not afraid of striking out on my own, but seriously, how do I get in on that? What do I need to do to get money like that? That family, ended up getting a house for $1.6 million, then furnishing it, then adding a porch cover and other accoutrements. I’m sure they spent at least $2.1 million after it was all said and done. I guess, I need to start up a security business, a consulting business and a landscaping business or something along those lines.

At times like this, I’m reminded of Shakespeare’s St. Crispin Crispian speech.

I’ve started another blog, actually, it’s been going along for some time now but I finally decided to share it on here. I’m calling it my Fat Trail Runner blog.

I’ve started exercising again with the goal of running an ultra at some point this year. That’s right, I said an ultra-marathon at some point this year. If I fail to do one, then I’ll owe brownie another nickel.

I’ve also started swimming, in preparation for the Cap2k swim race that I do every year. I added the little ticker in the side bar to make myself more accountable for my progress in both sports.

I’m also happy to report that despite my half ass exercising this month, I’ve lost a total of 6 lbs. I know it’s nothing earth shattering, but I’m just happy to have seen some progress in that respect.

Time to step it up.
