Obama themed Trojan Virus

in Computer Related

There is a major computer Trojan virus that is spreading through emails. This virus is very malicious and has the ability to read whatever information is on your computer and turn your computer into a drone that will then help spread the virus. The angle of attack, is that it comes in an email that purports to be from a legit news organization (Time Magazine, CNN, Denver Post, etc.) and titled “More information about Obama’s win” or “See the rest of the election results” or something along these lines.

The email has a link for you to update your flash player to a newer version. DO NOT click that link.  The link installs the virus on your computer. At this point in time, there is no fix for this virus.

Remember these tips:

  1. If an email is unexpected, or from an unexpected source, don’t open it.
  2. Software companies rarely send out email notices telling you to update your installed version. Most software nowadays updates automatically.
  3. Trust, but verify.
